Kitchen Nostalgia

An overwhelming urge to make fresh bread took ahold of me today. I pictured Amanda in her dreamy daze, rushing back and forth between the café and proud Olf's bakery, trying not to be caught in her kitchen shoes....

Paul Kalkbrenner on shuffle and a simple artisan bread recipe are taking place in my kitchen right now. I almost feel like I should wear a pair of green crocs for the ultimate "Rosenhills" effect.

After mixing the dough, I had to wash the sticky buildup of yeast off of the bowls and I was reminded of the laborious hours in the dish room, that huge container of sourdough was always that LAST thing to wash.

I miss it, honestly. I could be in Sweden today. But it's great to be here experiencing Hawaii without school for the first time. I want to open up my own Rosenhill. My own cafe, bakery, farm. That dream is still as alive as ever. I'm serious. Wwoofers welcome. Please come visit me and help me start this up. Baking bread with the memories of my own Swedish summer is only fun for so long. Then it gets lonely. My enthusiasm doesn't carry well over to the people in my home; they just aren't into it. Which is fine, different people, different hobbies.

Well on tonight's menu, per request of my sister, is salad (her's with grilled chicken), rosemary potatoes,  steamed zucchini, freshly baked bread, and a dessert of dark cocoa cupcakes. The oven will buy kept busy. I'll just have to recycle my playlists from last summer; Ane Brun, Beatles, Tallest Man on Earth, Fever Ray, Rebecca och Fiona, Band of Horses, Bob Dylan, Deer Tick, Angus & Julia Stone, Bon Iver, and of course I'll have to throw in Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black." Ok, not so much recycling there... I'll still listen to all of that all the time anyway.

omg so good

My next plan is to recreate the amazing Morotskaka (Carrot cake) that we baked, and stole and ate. Oh my god, it was pure heaven, especially when accompanied by that lemon yoghurt sauce. I just want my own organic café already, so that I don't have to cook in vain (picky eaters in my household.)
