Soul Salad

Salad has always played a huge role in my life. It has always been the one food that has brought my family together. In the past few years we've adapted to a come-home-stressed sort of lifestyle, (quite opposite what we all believe in, sadly): my dad coming home stressed from his job, my sister and I with our respective, hard days at school and all the challenges and peer-pressure-problems that follow, my mom loaded with all the paperwork, finances, taxes, and whatnot...

So I love salad, if it isn't clear. Actually, I pretty much love all fruits and vegetables, but I especially love combining them in interesting ways. Strawberries taste really interesting with lemons, arugula with oranges and and apples with cucumbers. I pretty much make a salad every day. Sometimes using red leaf lettuce, sometimes arugula, sometimes chard. Hell, sometimes with the notorious dandelions growing in my garden. Lately I've been picking random weeds and throwing them into the mixing bowl, along with mint leaves, and various nuts and seeds. It's so nice to have a variety of ingredients that can be mixed differently. Now, I've always loved cooking, but I don't consider myself some gourmet genius, and frankly, I don't really care to ever acquire that title. But I do love to be a chef on occasion, especially when cooking for myself.
