Deck the Brains with Lights of Knowledge...

Well it only took 6 hours, the reading of some Greek mythology, some drawing, music, a chat with a good friend, a birthday package from my family, and 3 bananas to lift my mood from "total grump" to "Peacefully Sleepy, but smiling."

Whatever it takes to conquer the winter blues! The problem with these blues is that they completely inhibit my ability to study; I can hardly muster up the energy to get out of bed on days like today. It's kind of sad to see nothing but fog from your window. But its such a trifle compared with the challenges that others in the world are facing. At least I have the chance to eat three bananas and the opportunity for an education.
So many would kill for food and the chance to go to school.

I've discovered an interesting, but contradictory "little something" about my anatomy atlas. It is called "Prometheus," a well-known german atlas published by the Thieme Group. The majority of students here have and recommend this atlas. I actually use two and compare them, just because I prefer to learn from a broader spectrum of media. Anyway, I think it's ironic that the atlas is called "Prometheus," because I don't find that it lives up to its name.

Many of us are familiar with the Ancient Greek myth of Prometheus, the Titan-God of Forethought who brought fire to mankind. Fire can represent so many different things; light, warmth, passion, power, intelligence, magic, spirit etc.
But I'm not exactly picking up any of those qualities from my atlas. There definitely has to be an active "fire" coming from the reader, to be able to understand what it's talking about. Not the other way around.

It would be cool though if my atlas could somehow deliver its contents into my brain via glowing embers or flames. I can just imagine a little man crawling through my nasal cavities with a glowing torch, lighting up the wall of the 'Os Ethmoidale Lamina Perpendiculars' and somehow keeping that region aglow, until the image has burned itself into my memory...

Oh, Atlas.. can't you give me a little spark?

Somehow this thought ties in very well with the oncoming holidays. Sparks of light, candle-flames, crackling fireplaces, Christmas lights... Prometheus is running around like crazy, trying to tell us that it's ok, that we can still learn in the winter... Maybe he needs to visit my house more often!
