Anatomic vs. Economic

Last night I dreamt of the drainage of sinuses in the nose. I woke up, feeling like I hadn't gotten any sleep.. and then it occurred to me that the nose was the only thing from my upcoming exam that I hadn't somehow drawn a diagram of. To avoid the same thing happening tonight, with the hierarchy of the bronchus and lungs, I figured I might as well get it out of my system.

I find that I can usually remember my own pneumonic devices better than ones that have already been made... but I must admit that they're usually really weird.

So the Hierarchy of the Trachea/ Bronchus goes something like this:

  1. Larynx
  2. Trachea (~20 cartilage rings)
  3. Bronchus Principalis Dexter et Sinister
  4. Bronchus Lobaris (3 Dexter, 2 Sinister)
  5. Bronchus Segmentalis (3,2,5 Dexter... 5,4 Sinister)
  6. Bronchiolus Lobularis (first generation of Bronchioli)
  7. Bronchiolus Terminalis (last portion of Conductive section of Resp. System)
  8. Bronchiolus Respiratorius
  9. Ductus Alveoles
  10. Sacculus Alveoes
  11. Alveole

Sure, I could remember them without my own drawing, or some pneumonic device... but I find it so much more entertaining when I construct something of my own. I guess I would way rather remember the Bronchus as being an enjoyable thing to learn about if I do something cool with it.

Since there is a so-called hierarchy to the Bronchus, I immediately thought of a government structure. I love talking about governments and what's wrong with them. But I also love speculating about solutions for how to overcome corruption and totalitarianism. So I decided to revise the US government a little bit, and give it a positive twist in a short story.

President Barack O'Butterfly has had enough of dealing with the economy and greedy people, that he decided to invite the Representatives of the House, the Senators, and the people of his country to a concert. He hopes to show the people that some things in life come without money (such as music) and can be shared peacefully with one another. He asks the National Band to play for his guests, outside of the National Capitol Building. Thousands of guests gather below the trees of DC and listen and breathe with the sound of the music. Some of them are in such awe that they sit right up to where the conductor is standing. They have no possessions with them; they had to leave all of their belongings on the other side of the duct-tape that marks the edge of the field. Inside their bags, remains all their money, untouched, completely forgotten. They soak up the melodies and spend the evening together in peace, and all of Washington is able to spend one night without corruption.
