Mighty Michaelmas Full Moon Tomato

Today was Michaelmas, the pagan holiday celebrating St. Michael's conquering the evil dragon. Many Waldorf schools acknowledge this holiday by putting on a pageant for students, family and friends. I really love Michaelmas, because it's about "taming our dragons." That can be left to everyone's own interpretation, but I see it as finding the strength to face fears and difficult situations, in a peaceful way. I watched the ceremony and instantly felt nostalgic. The years fly by so fast! It was definitely good to go and put some of my thoughts into perspective. It gave me a little nudge as to what to do with my own life.

I spent the rest of my day-off at home, enjoying the peace in my garden; though nothing has sprouted in the bed yet. I harvested a real "bunch" of chard and a few leaves of arugula. I GREW that, and then ate it for lunch. It's one of the best feelings in the world to grow your own food, harvest it, and eat it for lunch.

I had turned my yogurt container from this morning over and noticed the inscription: This cup is made from plants. I had to smile. This evening I filled it with soil and planted a seed which I collected and dried from an heirloom tomato. It just so happens to be full moon, so I'll call it my good luck tomato. It's got all the powers of the moon and St. Michael to promote its growth, and a lot of love from me. Maybe this tomato will change the world somehow.....
