Gonna BEET this college-app!

I forgot how much college applications suck. Opening up my old college-board account to retrieve my SAT scores was something I had hoped never to do again. It took me a few minutes to remember the password and navigating through the website felt like a forgotten skill. It was like scavenging old files from a menacing attic, brushing the toxic dust off a mildewed cardboard box, and diving in full force. It brought back that sour bubbling feeling in my stomach, and reminded me of some hideous nights back in 2009 & 2010. Opening up my transcript was another semi-nightmare, as it catapulted me back to those stressful weeks where all of our high-school credits were messed up. I can't believe it's been two years since I went through that horrendous process of selling myself to a college. Thank god UH isn't picky about GPA's or test scores, doesn't require self-glorifying essays and is generally a piece of cake to get into. It could be so much worse, but I never thought I'd be stressing about this again.

I wish I was in my garden, planting my lovely little beets and heads of lettuce. Well, maybe two more hours of this paperwork crap and then I'll be out there with my newly bought bags of organic soil and seedlings. Speaking of lovely beets– I flipped through a book in Barnes & Nobles' botanical/ gardening section yesterday, while trying to wait-out the rush-hour traffic (it worked). I read that beets are among America's top 10-most hated foods!?!? Excuse me–what?!  So hated, in fact, that the Obamas refused to have them planted in the White Houses' organic garden. I'm sorry Mr. & Mrs. President, but you've just gone down a notch in my book. I'd still vote for you if I could, though.

Michelle Obama writes in her book about America's gardens,

"One thing the president and I, we don't really like, are beets. We don't have beets. We are a no-beet garden. We believe there's a beet gene. You either love beets or you hate 'em, and neither of us have the beet gene."

Well, I'll beet this college app soon enough, and get serious out in the dirt.
