Cotyledon Cotyledon

The first little chard cotyledon has started to unravel. It's so strong yet adorable, like Hanna H slowly hoisting up her pirate flag.

The basil also sprouted, but I'm the least excited about that one. Hopefully I'll be able to make some good pesto down the road though.

The arugula is coming along nicely. It's got this double-bubble leafed cotyledon situation going. Endearing.

The papayas are stubborn. They're starting to piss me off a bit. They should be the easiest to grow, yet I fail. It's the third batch I've tried now. The seeds are from organic, non-GMO certified papayas, so they should be fine. But they've probably been contaminated, since the 2006 stat showed that 50% of organic papayas were already contaminated. Eff Monsanto for messing this up for me. This is actually devastating. Out of the 20 seeds I planted, not a single one has made an entrance. Sighhh.

Saving seeds is what I'm working on now. The seeds of anything that is organic, heirloom, and tastes good will be saved in my house from now on. Put all those collected bottles and jars to use.

I'm slightly devastated now. This makes me really sad. On the other hand, I've got chard and arugula to brighten my day :)
