I'm not the food-blogger type of person. Never will be. But I love cooking and especially making things from scratch.
I would love to make my own goat cheese, my own yoghurt, my own pasta, and grow all my food by myself. Of course there would have to be exceptions for things like vanilla beans, coffee, cinnamon, but if those items are fair trade certified I don't feel quite as guilty about buying them.
I wish I had a noodle machine, but it works just as well to make ravioli with a rolling pin. I had lots of fun. Too bad I only had ONE other person to cook for. Cooking by myself, for myself is not nearly as fun.
Anyway, cooking from scratch is way healthier and more environmentally friendly. First of all, you have control over all of the ingredients. You can avoid beasts like MSG, or milk from cows treated with rBGH, which often lurk in packaged/ processed foods. Second of all, the food doesn't have to be preserved with all kinds of chemicals. And you usually don't have as much plastic wrap to throw away when you buy fresh ingredients. It's insane, the amount of plastic packaging is used in supermarkets... and we're wondering why there's an oil crisis!
Making my own noodles was super fun, but a bit sad, since it was just me and my ipod in the kitchen... nobody else around to make jokes or chat with. Cooking with friends or family is always more entertaining.
